There's something new on the site. From now on, we will have a section dedicated to upcoming albums in our calendar section. We strongly encourage local bands to contact us with the necessary information, title and release date, so we can put it on the site.
Talking about our calendar, take note that K-Man and The 45's will be playing this Friday with The Hangers instead of The Fundamentals, PL Mafia will be opening for the Toasters on October 1rst and there will be a tribute to Sugar Minott featuring Osmosis Unlimited on September 10th. Also, there will be the Dave's Fest on September 11th featuring a lot of our local ska bands. More details are available in our calendar.
We have also added two videos from the Sublime With Rome show to our media section. There won't be any videos of the Specials show in Toronto but feel free to share your thoughts and comment about this fantastic event on our forum.

The album Rocks And Cranes from local band Brixton Robbers will soon be a year old. To celebrate, the band makes the entire record available to listen for free on BandCamp. If you like what you hear, you also have the option to buy the CD for only 5$.
Don't forget that next Thursday is Download Day 4 on Community Records' website. The site also have free music to offer if you take the time to register.
The Aquabats announced on their website last week that their new album will be coming out on November 9th. The band decided to release this album independently, actual copies of the album will be available at shows and for those places they don't come and visit often, a digital download will be available on their website.
Three events have been added to our calendar: There will be another installation of the Pressure Drop evening at Club Lambi this Saturday, and two new shows at l'Hémisphère Gauche in November and December featuring The Fundamentals and Rudeboy as headliners. The Beatdown now have a videoclip for their very popular cover of Get Ready. You can view the video on MusiquePlus' website. The band will have their official CD release party at Petit Campus on August 19th.
Two new songs from Big D And The Kids Table are available for purchase on Amazon.com. The songs are part of the Ska Is Dead 7" project. If you would rather have the actual vinyls of the series, you can subscribe for them here.

Indeed the dates for the 2010 edition of the Montreal Ska Festival have been given via TheHangers.TV last week. The event will occur on October 14 to 16 at Petit Campus and Club Soda. Two other bands have confirmed their presence: Reggae Dubline Corporation and K-Man And The 45's.
It is a bit short notice but Danny Rebel And The KGB is releasing their first album, entitled Soul Shaker, this Friday at the Petit Campus. Also added to our calendar is a show for The Forbidden Beats on August 13th.

The Afterbeat announced on their MySpace blog that the band was currently putting the final touches to their upcoming EP that should be coming out this Fall. No title or release date has been given yet.
Big D And The Kids Table mentioned, during an interview with The Punk Site, that their new album entitled The Damned, the Dumb and the Delirious should be coming out in the Fall as well. The band said that this particular album will be more ska punk than its predecessor Fluent In Stroll.
Sublime With Rome stated last week on MySpace that they will be hitting the studio in October and release a single thereafter. The group will be in Montreal on August 22nd.

It's been confirmed that The Fundamentals will be participating to the 2010 edition of the Montreal Ska Festival. If you would like to know more about the band, you can visit their Myspace profile.
K-Man And The 45's recently finished recording their first album but they need help raising money for the publication. If you would like to help this local band, you can buy a shirt at their next show. The shirts are great and only 10$.
The new Sidewalks' album should be coming out in the Fall and not this summer like it was previously intended. The band will be back in Montréal in October.
Community Records will have another Download Day on August 19th. That day, visitors will be able to download for free, some of the new music from artists under the label. For a list of what will be available, visit the Community Records website.

UK band Spunge has now a new website. You can visit the website at their current address to view pictures, videoclips and live videos of the band.
Mad Caddies will be releasing on July 20th their Best Of CD entitled Consentual Selections. The band also announced yesterday on Twitter that 2 new songs will soon be accessible for their fans.
There's another band that will release a Greatest Hits album on July 20th. Reel Big Fish new album Best Of Us will contain their best 22 songs. They are also releasing an acoustic album that same day.

First, The Forbidden Beats will be playing Friday July 23rd at le Repaire in Laval, there will be a Couch Addiction reunion show in the beginning of August, Weak Size Fish will be returning to Montreal at the end of next month and finally a band that hasn't been in Montreal for a while, The Toasters will be visiting us in October. K-Man And The 45's has uploaded a song from their upcoming album on their MySpace page. No release date for the album has been determined yet.
I would like to remind you that Osmosis Unlimited will be playing for the first time this Wednesday at Petit Campus. Not only will they be releasing their first album, but the profits of the show will go to AMI-Québec, an organisation that helps people with mental illness. Great music for a good cause, we hope to see you there!

It was a busy week last week as we had the visit of two great bands: Streetlight Manifesto and The Aggrolites. There's no video for Streetlight but you can visit our media section to view the one we took of The Aggrolites. A few shows have been added to the calendar but the one that will probably retain most attention is the Sublime With Rome show on August 22nd. If you plan to go, I suggest you get your ticket as soon as possible. And finally, we have reviewed the first album of The Beatdown that was released a few weeks ago.

It's a Special Japan links this week as a recently discovered a few japanese bands but first, I would start with Ska In The World Records, a site that will keep you posted on new japanese ska and reggae releases and news. If you are up for something new, check out Oi-Skall Mates, Riddimates and ska punk band Skalapper. I understand that the websites are in japanese but there's nothing a little Google translation can't fix. Morever, most menus for these websites are in English.

I went to Foufounes Électriques last Wednesday to see Staylefish and The Real Deal. Although all bands were good, I was particularly impressed with Staylefish performance. You can find a few videos of the night in our media.

On a sadder note, it's with regrets that we learned on Twitter this week that Subb will be breaking up. The band will have a final tour starting in September but no dates have been given yet. You will be able to see a few members of the band in Don't Push - A Tribute To Sublime this summer and possibly on the Stomp's stage at the Van's Warped Tour although this hasn't been confirmed.

Frederiction's band Weak Size Fish will be playing at L'Absynthe next month. Talking about band visiting Montréal, Streetlight Manifesto will also be in the city in June. The band has invited Dan Potthast again to open the evening. More information available in our calendar.

Vancouver's band Rude City Riot has a new song available for their fans. The song, Imposter Man, can be heard or downloaded for free via their ReverbNation profile.
Voodoo Glow Skulls are currently in studio and the band posted on MySpace last week the song Knucklehead which will be on their next album. Check back regularly as the band mentioned that more new songs will be added over the next few months.

Take note that Club Lambi will be holding ska evenings called Pressure Drop every third Friday of the month starting on May 21rst. The event will feature DJ Mossman and Aaron Maiden plus a different guest DJ for every month. Not only will they be playing ska, but also rocksteady, reggae, dub, calypso and many more genres.

Brixton Robbers announced on Myspace last Thursday that their guitar player, Max Ledoux, would be leaving the band shortly. His last show in Montreal will be on April 18th but he will be present for the tour in Europe. Max will be replaced by a friend of the band named Jepeto.
Rude City Riot is currently looking to book a show in Montreal for June. If you would like to help this great Canadian band from BC, you can contact Dan Cowan. The band is planning on releasing a new single in May.
A new song from Mustard Plug have been uploaded on YouTube recently. The song entitled Aye Aye Aye should soon be available to download for free. In the meantime, you can hear the song here.

It's with enthusiasm and sadness that I went to Stepper's last show on Friday. Stepper was definitely a great band and they will surely be missed. However, they announced during the show that they had just finished recording their newest album which will shortly be available for free on their MySpace page. In the meantime, we have a few videos of their last performance in our media section.

The Sidewalks commented on Twitter last week saying that the Better Late Than Never was particularly successful. They mentioned also that they will hopefully be back in the city around July.

French band from Montréal, Caillasse, announced recently on their MySpace profile that a new album was coming in September. No title or released date has been given.
The Beatdown will be participating to the 11th Victoria Ska Fest in BC. Other bands such as Fishbone, The Aggrolites and Cherry Poppin' Daddies have confirmed their presence at the festival. The 2010 edition will be from July 7 to 10.
The Aquabats wrote on their MySpace blog last week that a new album would be coming out in about 9 month, basically around next winter. The band is presently on tour and had few dates in Canada earlier this week but only in Ontario.

The Beatdown are currently touring in Europe but they will be playing a show in Montreal as soon as they return, more precisely on March 27th at the House of Reggae. Local band Soul And Spirit will be opening that night.

The Real Deal are currently touring in the United-State but they announced on their MySpace last Wednesday that the band will be touring in Québec and Ontario in May and there will be indeed a Montréal show. Some new pictures of their current tour are available on their profile.

Local band PL Mafia will be releasing their new album, Le Kid, on April 3rd at Cafe Chaos. The album will be under Montreal based label, Big Wheel Records. More details and tracklist can be found on their MySpace profile.
K-Man And The 45's announced earlier this week on their MySpace profile that the band was currently in studio. So far, 12 songs and 3 covers have been recorded but they did not give details about a title or a release date.
The compilation Peg City Skank 3 will be available on all digital formats including iTunes, Amazon and eMusic next Tuesday. The entire track list is available on Winnipeg's label Bacteria Buffet Records.

PL Mafia announced last week that the band is finally done recording their second album. They will be mixing it this month with the help of Marc-André Beaudet from the Sainte Catherines. The new album, named Le Kid, should be out this Spring, possibly in April.
Brixton Robbers are currently working on new songs but they are also preparing their first European Tour coming in May. The band will be touring in France, Belgium, Switzerland and maybe even Germany but before they leave for Europe, they will have a small tour in Québec from April 15 to 25 with French band Charly Fiasco. No dates yet but more is probably to come soon.

It's on their MySpace that Canadian band The Afterbeat mentioned their new You Tube Channel called Super Beat Productions. Also, the band recently shoot a commercial for Budweiser that will be airing during the 2010 Superbowl on February 7th. Some backstage footage is available on their channel.

The Montreal Ska Festival's website has been updated and the organizers are now ready to receive applications from bands that would like to participate to the 2010 edition. All you have to do is visit their website and fill in the form.
The Johnstones have now a videoclip for their song Take Me To The Party. You can view the video on their official YouTube channel.
To celebrate their 30th years anniversary, The Specials will release in March, a live DVD of their show recorded at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall. The disc will also include never before seen documentary footage. You can pre-order the DVD here.

Five Iron Frenzy's new documentary DVD, The Rise and Fall of Five Iron Frenzy, is available for pre-order since last Tuesday. If you would like copy, you can order it on the Asian Man Records website. The official release date is March 2nd, 2010.
The Voodoo Glow Skulls talked on their Myspace blog last week about the departure of their drummer Jerry O’Neill who was also an original member of the band. However, the band already found a new drummer, Chris Dalley, which also play the drums for Death By Stereo. The formation mentioned that their new album, although there's no official title yet, would be release around mid-March 2010.
The website for local band Osmosis Unlimited has been added to our links. Osmosis Unlimited was created by ex-member of The Kingpins and Me, Mom and Morgentaler, John Jordan. Last week, local band PL Mafia posted on their MySpace blog a few of their upcoming plans for 2010. They confirmed a new album for around March or April. The band will be recording and mixing in January and February, and shows should resume in the Spring.
Buck-O-Nine revealed on Twitter last month, that the band is currently working on new tracks for their next album. The band's latest album, Sustain, was released in 2007.
Another band that will be releasing an album in 2010 is The Slackers. The band from New York announced recently that their new album would be coming out on April 20th, 2010. There no official title yet but it has been mentioned that this record would be under Hellcat Records.
