February 7th, 2010 - Local bands news
PL Mafia announced last week that the band is finally done recording their second album. They will be mixing it this month with the help of Marc-André Beaudet from the Sainte Catherines. The new album, named Le Kid, should be out this Spring, possibly in April.

Brixton Robbers are currently working on new songs but they are also preparing their first European Tour coming in May. The band will be touring in France, Belgium, Switzerland and maybe even Germany but before they leave for Europe, they will have a small tour in Québec from April 15 to 25 with French band Charly Fiasco. No dates yet but more is probably to come soon.

January 30th, 2010 - The Afterbeat new video channel
It's on their MySpace that Canadian band The Afterbeat mentioned their new You Tube Channel called Super Beat Productions. Also, the band recently shoot a commercial for Budweiser that will be airing during the 2010 Superbowl on February 7th. Some backstage footage is available on their channel.

The website This Is Ska has been added to our links. This interesting website contains several video interviews with members of ska bands such as Reel Big Fish, The Pietasters, The Toasters and more.

January 24th, 2010 - Contest winner!
The Montreal Ska Festival's website has been updated and the organizers are now ready to receive applications from bands that would like to participate to the 2010 edition. All you have to do is visit their website and fill in the form.

The Johnstones have now a videoclip for their song Take Me To The Party. You can view the video on their official YouTube channel.

To celebrate their 30th years anniversary, The Specials will release in March, a live DVD of their show recorded at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall. The disc will also include never before seen documentary footage. You can pre-order the DVD here.

Please take note that the Aggrolites' show for the Festival Montréal en Lumière on February 19th is unfortunately cancelled.

January 17th, 2010 - Retrospective of 2009
Nat and I have written small retrospectives of the year 2009. They recapitulate what happened during the year and we share with you our best and worst moments of 2009. You can visit our MySpace blog to read the review.

We have added the websites of two canadian bands to our links: Los Furios and The Sidewalks. Talking about The Sidewalks, the band will be in Montreal for two shows next March. A few more details are available in our calendar.

January 10th, 2010 - First contest of the year!
Five Iron Frenzy's new documentary DVD, The Rise and Fall of Five Iron Frenzy, is available for pre-order since last Tuesday. If you would like copy, you can order it on the Asian Man Records website. The official release date is March 2nd, 2010.

The Voodoo Glow Skulls talked on their Myspace blog last week about the departure of their drummer Jerry O’Neill who was also an original member of the band. However, the band already found a new drummer, Chris Dalley, which also play the drums for Death By Stereo. The formation mentioned that their new album, although there's no official title yet, would be release around mid-March 2010.

The website for local band Osmosis Unlimited has been added to our links. Osmosis Unlimited was created by ex-member of The Kingpins and Me, Mom and Morgentaler, John Jordan. The band is a strong supporter of AMI-Quebec, an organization dedicated to helping the mentally ill. You can visit their MySpace profile for more details.

SkaMontréal is happy to lauch our first constest of the year 2010! January 3rd, 2010 - First post of 2010!
Last week, local band PL Mafia posted on their MySpace blog a few of their upcoming plans for 2010. They confirmed a new album for around March or April. The band will be recording and mixing in January and February, and shows should resume in the Spring.

Buck-O-Nine revealed on Twitter last month, that the band is currently working on new tracks for their next album. The band's latest album, Sustain, was released in 2007.

Another band that will be releasing an album in 2010 is The Slackers. The band from New York announced recently that their new album would be coming out on April 20th, 2010. There no official title yet but it has been mentioned that this record would be under Hellcat Records.

For this first post of 2010, we have added this week to our links section, the MySpace profile of Ska Vids. Ska Vids presents everyday, 5 videos of different ska bands from around the world. If you are looking for some new bands, it's a good place to start. Finally, our calendar was updated to include two shows from famous bands The Planet Smashers and The Aggrolites. Visit it for more details.

December 20th, 2009 - Rude City Riot and Warped Tour bands...
Canadian band Rude City Riot announced last week on Twitter that they would be hitting the studio in February to record brand new songs. No news yet about an upcoming album.

Last Friday, the organizers of the Van's Warped Tour revealed a long list of bands that will be participating to the tour in 2010. A name that you will recognize easily is Reel Big Fish. Unfortunately the band is not doing the whole tour and therefore won't be in Montréal. Check the whole list here.

The website of the New York band Do It With Malice, has been added to our links. Fans of Streetlight Manifesto might want to check them out.

December 14th, 2009 - Late update...
There's a special offer going on on Big D And The Kids Table's website. If you buy any vinyl of the band at Silver Sprocket, you will receive Big D's Wicked Hardcore Christmas CD for free. It is a limited edition CD that was actually recorded in 2004 but has just been released now. The CD is also available for purchase..

The Van's Warped Tour people have already set the dates for the 2010 edition. The Warped Tour will stop in Montreal on July 10th. Bands who will participate to the tour will be announced on Friday.

It might be a bit early but we have added a show for March 2010 in our calendar. Also, Go Jimmy Go's website is now part of our links section.

December 6th, 2009 - RDC show: video and album review
Local band The Wax Buckets have recently added to their Myspace profile some new live tracks. You can now hear new versions of Sex, Drunk & Out and Pick It Up! The band also recorded a brand new track called Highjacking the Scene.

Last week, The Afterbeat announced that the band would hitting the studio in January. No information on a new album has been given out yet.

Don't forget that the Mighty Mighty Bosstones' new album Pin Points & Gin Joint is coming out on December 8th. You can pre-order your CD on their official website.

Check out Streetlight Manifesto's website for clips of songs from their upcoming project 99 Songs Of A Revolution. The band has still not revealed any details about the release date of this album.

November 29th, 2009 - Shows and Less Than Jake videos!
Two shows have been added to our calendar this week: Subb next Friday at L'Exode and The Beatdown on January 28th at Petit Campus. Visit our calendar for more details.

Check out our media section for the videos of Less Than Jake from last week. As it could be expected from a Less Than Jake show, the videos are a bit shaky but nice none the less. I feel obliged to mentioned that the venue of the show, Le Medley, will apparently close down at the end of the year. I've heard that it has become too costly to keep the building alive and there are no plan as to relocate it.

November 22nd, 2009 - Many news and Mad Caddies videos!
Sorry for the lack of update last week. Hopefully this week's update will make up for it.

Bacteria Buffet's famous compilation, Peg City Skank 3, is coming out next month on iTunes. The compilation will include some of the best bands from the West of Canada such as The Afterbeat, The Barrymores, JFK, The Furios and many more.

It has been confirmed that there will not be a 2010 version of the Ska Calendar. However, Joelle Andres, creator of the calendar, will be releasing images online every month of your favorite bands for everyone to print.

It appears that Westbound Train is going on hiatus for a while. However, the band wanted to reassure their fans that the group isn't near breaking up. A few more details here.

Streetlight Manifesto announced on their website last week that 99 Songs of Revolution Volume One is indeed finished but will not be released on CD or digitally yet due to some troubles with record label companies. They mentioned that clips from the record and artwork will be soon revealed on their website.

Our friend Danny is looking to complete his ska-punk band with keyboard, trumpet and trombone players. The band has been recently created and doesn't have an official name yet but if you are interested and live around the Montreal area you can contact Danny at the following email address for more details: istovir_noquar@hotmail.com

November 8th, 2009 - News from your favorite bands...
Big D and the Kids Table has posted last week on their MySpace the first video of The Making Of Fluent In Stroll. There will be in total 9 videos posted on YouTube depicting the band working on their last album.

The Mad Caddies are currently working on their Best Hits album which should come out in 2010. To make the best compilation possible, the band has decided to let the fans vote for their favorite songs. You can do so using the link available on their MySpace. They also annonced that following their best hits album, would be a totally new Mad Caddies record. The Mad Caddies will be in Montréal on November 15th.

Do you remember the Christian band Five Iron Frenzy? Apparently the band has put up together a DVD that should be coming out this winter. The DVD will be called The Rise And Fall Of Five Iron Frenzy and should include music videos, short films and commentaries from the band. They have dedicated this website to the upcoming DVD although there are not much to see at the moment.

November 1rst, 2009 - Contest Winners!
Rude City Riot have launch their website recently. They also made their debut CD free but for a very limited time. If it is still available when you read this, I strongly suggest you download it.

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones have announced last week that they will be releasing their new album Pin Points and Gin Joints on December 8, 2009. The song Graffiti Worth Reading is still available for free through their MySpace. I also recommend that you download it.

Big D And The Kids Table announced last week through Twitter that they are currently shooting the video for the song We Can Live Anywhere from their most recent album Fluent In Stroll.

October 25th, 2009 - Review, shows and new links

October 18th, 2009 - Ska Festival's videos and SkaMTL Halloween Contest!
Local band K-Man and the 45's has added video/interview on their MySpace last week. The video contains also footage of their last show on October 9th at Petit Campus where they were playing to launch the Montreal Ska Festival. The group will be performing at L'Hémisphère Gauche on December 11th with La Faute des Autres and The Fundamentals.

Less Than Jake will be in Montreal next month at the Medley with The Swellers and legendary band The Casualties. Visit our calendar for more info. Also, The English Beat are not stopping in Montreal during their tour but for those who can make the trip they will be in Ottawa on November 27th at the Shenkman Arts Centre.

Chris Murray will be releasing later this month his new album Yard Sale which is a compilation of unreleased tracks from the last 15 years. For a song preview of the album, visit Musical Occupation for the videoclip of Shade Of The Same Color.

Another band that will come up with a new album soon is The Mighty Mighty Bosstones with Pin Points and Gin Joints. Visit their MySpace for the album cover and a free song.

October 3rd, 2009 - Upcoming shows
The Slackers posted last week a very detailed blog on their MySpace, about their upcoming album Lost and Found. They mentioned that the record will come out this Fall but didn't give a specific date.

Local band the Wax buckets will play at the Piranha Bar on October 25th. Also, a band we haven't seen in a while, the Mad Caddies will be in Montreal on November 15th. More details in our calendar section.

Take note that next weekend is the Montreal Ska Festival and the website will not be updated (It's THAT big of an event!). We will come back with tons of videos and pictures of the shows on October 17th. Also, don't forget that the party continues at l'Absynthe both on Saturday and Sunday after the shows. Hope to see you guys there.

September 27th, 2009 - News from some of our local bands...
The Hangers have announced recently that they will be releasing their first album this Fall. The title hasn't been revealed yet but the CD will be released on November 24th.

The Beatdown mentioned last week on their Twitter that they will be adding new songs next Tuesday on their MySpace profile. Make sure to check it out.

Small reminder: Next Tuesday, the Cherry Poppin' Daddies will be releasing Skaboy JFK, a compilation of all their ska songs and a few new ones.

Visit our review section for the long time due review of Brixton Robbers first CD, Rocks and Cranes. Moreover, new links have been added to the site: Skanky'Lil Music a record label from Belgium and Mark Foggo's website, apparently a very popular ska artist in Europe right now.

September 20th, 2009 - Mad Caddies and the Soirée Stomp
Mad Caddies announced last week that they will be touring in Canada in November. A few dates are available on their MySpace. So far, none for Montreal but they mentioned that more dates were to come.

Last Thursday was the first Soirée Stomp at Petit Campus featuring Reggae Dubline Corp, The Beatdown and Subb. A few videos of the three bands have been added to the media section. Also, RDC mentioned that their new album entitled Broadcast Vibe, would be coming out next November.

September 13th, 2009 - More news on the Montreal Ska Festival
Westbound Train announced this week on their MySpace that their trailer, containing equipment, instruments and merch, had been stolen. This resulted in some shows being cancelled in the U.S. So far their presence at the Montreal Ska Festival doesn't seem to be in jeopardy. The band mentioned that they will soon set up a Paypal account for donation. Visit their MySpace this week for more information.

Talking about the Montreal Ska Fest, I received a press release this week announcing even more bands joining the festival: Planet Smashers, The Idlers, The Beatdown and The Fabulous Lolo. I have updated the information in our calendar but if you would like even more details you can visit their website. The tickets will be available tomorrow on Admission.

Also added to our calendar is Subb and Brixton Robbers' show on October 15th at the Brasserie des Gaulois d'Amériques.

September 5th, 2009 - One Night Band at the GAMIQ
The One Night Band has been nominated in the category World Album of the year at the GAMIQ for their album Hit & Run. If you would like to encourage them, you can vote for them here. You don't have to vote for every category but you do need to vote before September 19th.

I came accross the videoclip of Sugar and Spice, last week, from Madness' newest album. Also, for those who had not seen it already, Subb has a now a videoclip for the song I Heart MTL on MusiquePlus website.

Three new shows have been added to our calendar: Massawippi Skank next Friday, PL Mafia Cover Night on the 25th and a Ska Night the following week at the Burgundy Lion. Looks like September is gonna be a busy month! Finally, the Do The Dog Music, a record label from the UK, and Duff Guide to Ska, a blog, have been added to our links section.

August 30th, 2009 - A new record label in Montreal
Last Friday was Brixton Robbers CD launch at l'Absynthe but it was also the launch of Big Wheel Records. For more details about this new local record label, visit their Myspace profile. Also, we have added a video of that memorable night in our media section. It's a bit dark but the sound is clear.

I learned this week that RDC will be opening for The Beatdown and Subb on September 17th. Also, a few more bands have been added to the list of the Montreal Ska Festival this October: K-Man and the 45's, Stop, Drop and Skank and Massawippi Skank.

August 23rd, 2009 - Videoclips from Staylefish and The Johnstones...
Staylefish has announced this week on Twitter that they are currently working on a videoclip for their song Colour By Numbers. The album of the same name is available since August 8th.

The Johnstones have a now a videoclip for the song Can't Be Trusted which can be viewed on YouTube. Their new album should come out in October.

August 16th, 2009 - Videoclips from Streetlight Manifesto and Big D...
Streetlight Manifesto has released this week their videoclip for the song Would You Be Impressed. The video is available on YouTube and can be watched right here. Another popular band, Big D and The Kids Table, has released a videoclip from their most recent album Fluent In Stroll.

The Slackers have a brand new website online since last week. They also mentioned on their MySpace that the band will be working on their new project Lost and Found (not the final title) which consist on recording unreleased songs from 1998 to 2007.

For those who don't mind the trip, The Beatdown will be at l'Agitée in Québec City on August 20th. The band will be in Montréal in September with Subb. You can see the details in our calendar. Also, I have reviewed Madness' latest album: The Liberty Of Norton Folgate.

August 9th, 2009 - New review, link and show!
Note: We apologize if the site wasn't available for some time during the weekend. The web host is changing server and it seemed like the transfer wasn't too smooth. Everything is working fine now and additional troubles shouldn't occur.

The Real Deal is looking for images and videos of the band that fans might have taken over the past years. If you have some footage, you can send it to them through their MySpace blog. August 3rd, 2009 - Brixton Robbers and some new links
Local band Brixton Robbers will release their new album entitled "Rocks and Cranes" on August 28th. All the details for their album release show are posted in our calendar. If your not too familiar with the band, you can visit their MySpace page or check out our interview with Matt the drummer of the band, in our media section.

This week I was aiming for links where you can download ska songs from free. I found quite a few interesting ones. First comes Community Records, which make a few albums under their label available for free download. All you have to do is register to their newsletter which is sent about twice a month and contains news and addtional free download information.

Fans of skacore will be happy to visit Angry Ska, a blog specifically dedicated to the genre. You can also download songs from various skacore artists from around the world on the website. Ska4U follow the same principle. They have a vast collection of MP3's from popular and less well-known bands. Finally, we have the website of The Uptones, a band that have been playing since 1981. You can download some of their songs in their Audio & Video section.

July 26th, 2009 - The Johnstones, Ska Is Dead Tour and Streetlight Manifesto...
The Johnstones have uploaded a new song on their MySpace profile this week. The song Take Me To The Party will be available on their upcoming album Can't Be Trusted which should be released in October.

The Ska Is Dead Tour has annonced last Monday the first few dates for the second leg of the tour coming up this Fall. The main bands for the tour will be The Toasters, Voodoo Glow Skulls and Mustard Plug. No date for Montreal has been given yet.

July 19th, 2009 - Upcoming shows
It's a little bit short notice but there will be a Ska Night at the Burgundy Lion next Tuesday. They will play first wave and ska revival, no actual band. There's is no cover to get in so come have fun and enjoy classics of ska and newer hits.

Also added to our calendar, a show for local band The Hangers in September, and Flogging Molly which will be back in Montreal in October.

July 12th, 2009 - News and Stomp All Stars videos
Local band RDC has added recently on their MySpace a new song called Warmin' Up. The band will be touring this summer for their Chasing Smiles Tour. The details of the tour is available on their profile.

Although they haven't found a label yet, it seems like the Aquabats have already started working on their next album. No title or time of release have been announced yet.

July 5th, 2009 - Staylefish, Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Big D...
Staylefish is coming up with a new CD entitled Colour By Numbers really soon. Although no date has been announced yet, the CD will available to purchase at their table at The Van's Warped Tour as they are participating again this year. A song from this upcoming album has been added to their MySpace.

Talking about upcoming albums, Big D And The Kids Table will releasing Fluent In Stroll on July 7th. You can listen to some of their new stuff on their MySpace profile. Big D will also be in Montreal for the Van's Warped Tour on July 11th.

The Beatdown has posted on their MySpace this week, some live footage of their song Justice. Members of the Beatdown will be participating at the Stomp All Stars show during the Jazz Festival this year.

June 21rst, 2009 - Big News
We've got big news for you! Remember the Stomp All Stars? Well they will playing at the Jazz Festival this year. The best part is: their show is free! So there is no reason for you not to be there. Last time they played was in 2007 at Petit Campus and it was a blast! This is a show not to be miss, check out the details in our calendar.

New this week on the site: we have a new Twitter widget (see below). If you want to add us you can find us under the name SkaMontreal. Also, check out our reviews section for our critique of the new Subb album. Take note that we don't have Facebook just yet. We will let you know when we do so.

June 14th, 2009 - New website up!
As you can see, the new website is online and bigger than ever! All the main sections are completed except the store which will require a bit more time. Until then, you can look around to see what's new and don't hesitate to leave us your comments and feedback on our forum.

Stepper will be touring across Canada this summer for the Hotter Than Hot tour. We've been lucky to have them around now it's time for the rest of Canada to learn about this great local band. The band will also participate to the Ottawa Ska Fest from July 31rst to August 3rd.

Dan Potthast has started a new band called Dan P. and the Bricks. The band is composed of 10 members, including ex-member of Slow Gherkin, and will be an all ska band playing only locally for charity. Talking about Dan Potthast, a new album from his other band The Stich Up should come out this summer. The singer announced also the release of 2 solo albums by Fall.

June 6th, 2009 - Shows coming up

That's right, RX Bandits will be in Montreal in August at Foufounes Électriques. Also, The Beatdown will be participating to this year's Montreal Reggae Festival. May 24th, 2009 - New songs from various bands
Several new songs from their upcoming album Fluent In Stroll have been added this week to the MySpace profile of Big D and The Kids Table. The new album should be coming out on July 7th.

After The Sufferer, The Aggrolites have added a new song from their upcoming album: Tear That Falls. Check out their MySpace to hear it. And while we are at it, check out Rancid's MySpace to hear East Bay Night, a song from Let The Dominoes Fall.

Reel Big Fish will release a new DVD entitled Reel Big Fish Live! In Concert! this summer. They mentioned on their blog that they will be tourning the US this summer with no one else but the English Beat.

May 20th, 2009 - The Beatdown Contest Winner!

May 17th, 2009 - Rancid, RX Bandits and Madness
Rancid has released this week, their first videoclip from their new album. The song is called Last One To Die and can be seen on the homepage of their website. The new album Let The Dominoes Fall will come out on June 2nd.

RX Bandits is coming up with a new album this summer. Entitled Mandala, the album cover and tracklist can be found on their MySpace profile.

Madness' new album, The Liberty of Norton Folgate will be released next Monday in the UK. The special box set was available since last December but now fans will be able to get the CD at record stores. They mentioned on their MySpace that new release dates for the rest of the world should be announced soon.

May 9th, 2009 - Contest!
SkaMontréal is glad to promote the upcoming show of The Beatdown. The Beatdown is a new band formed by a few members of the One Night Band. For the occasion, we are giving away 2 tickets to go see them on May 22nd, thanks to Alex Giguère. The new album from Subb is coming out June 2nd and will be entitled "To This Beat". The band also announced that they will be filming a video next week for the song "I Love Montreal".

Looks like the Mighty Mighty Bosstones are not so much on hiatus anymore. The band has started working on their next album which they will start recording for in June. The Bosstones will be giving a few shows also next July. Nothing for Montreal but they will participate to the Victoria's 10th Anniversary Ska Fest in BC.

Keepin' 6 will be in Montreal on June 4th at the Bistro de Paris. Some local bands such as The Wax Buckets, Brixton Robbers and Reggae Dubline Corp. will be opening the show for them. Check out our calendar for more info.

I went to The Real Deal's show last night at Petit Campus and I must say, although I didn't know much of their songs, I had blast! I bought their new album "Fun" even though it is not sure I will review it here, from what I heard yesterday it sounds really good. You can hit our links section for their MySpace profile if you want to hear some of their new songs.

May 3rd, 2009 - Slightly late update...
Here's what's new on the site this week: First of all I have added videos from the Afterbeat show last week. There are no videos from Stepper as I wanted some specific songs that they did not play that night but great show as always!

Subb will be playing at the Cabaret Juste Pour Rire with the Johnstones on June 5th. The details have been added to the calendar. We have two new venues to our links: L'Absynthe and Underworld also, I have added the link for Face Plant Records.

April 25th, 2009 - Shows and media
I have added several shows for the Wax Buckets for May, June and July. Also, I went to One Night Band's show last Thursday and added the videos to our media section. The opening band was Kman and the 45's and they were great! Their MySpace profile is now in our links section. They don't have songs uploaded yet but you shold definately keep an eye on them.

Finally, The Afterbeat are playing tonight at l'Absynthe and Stepper is opening. This should be a great show, don't miss out!

April 19th, 2009 - News, shows and links

The Johnstones have realeased a 2 songs single through iTunes. You can visit their Myspace blog, to learn where you can download it.

For all those vinyl collectors out there, Reel Big Fish's newest album Fame, Fortune and Fornication is now available as a vinyl. You can buy it on the Amazon website.

The Cherry Poppin' Daddies are presently recording their next album entitled The Skankin' Hits of the Cherry Poppin' Daddies. The album will be a collection of new and previously released material. There are no released date yet but the band said the record should come out at the end of summer or September.

New shows have been added to our calendar for the bands Take the Boys, Stepper and RDC. I have also added details about the Van's Warped Tour coming in July. In our links section, website for the following venues have been added: Café Chaos, Club Soda, L'Hémisphère Gauche and Le Medley.

April 5th, 2009 - Contest info, links and new videos!
Please take note that since you guys have responded so well to our T-Shirt Contest, we are changing the end date for Friday April 10th, 2009. You have basically until next Friday to submit your name. Good luck!

Nat and I went to the 1-2-3 Punk 10 years anniversary last Thursday and brought back videos and pictures of the show. For more details about how it went check out Nat's blog on our MySpace profile and our media section for the videos. Also added to the site this week: Crookedhook's show on May 9th to our calendar, and Syracuse Ska website to our links section.

Rancid will release their newest album on June 2nd 2009 entitled Let The Dominoes Fall. You can view the tracklist on the Punknews website. Rancid will be in Montréal next June at the Parc Jean-Drapeau with Rise Against.

The Aquabats have been officiallly released by their record label Nitro. The band mentionned on their MySpace blog that it was actually a mutual aggreement from both parties. We sure hope they will persevere in finding a new label soon.

March 29th, 2009 - SkaMontréal is a year old!
That's right! Next Thursday, SkaMontréal will be celebrating its first year! For the occasion we have decided to give away a brand new SkaMontréal t-shirt. Big D and The Kids Table now have Twitter. You can find them under the name BigDStroll. The band is currently in studio and they will be posting updates on Twitter.

Another band that is currently recording songs is Voodoo Glow Skulls. They announced this week that the new album should be completed by the end of the summer. The band will be participating to the Ska Is Dead Tour this Fall but no dates have been given yet.

March 15th, 2009 - A little something new
Check out Alex Giguère new band, The Beatdown. The band is completely new and contains members of the One Night Band. The Beatdown will have a show in Montreal on May 22nd. You can visit our calendar for more details about this show.

The U.K. band Madness, has a completely redesigned their website. The band released the The Liberty Of Norton Folgate as a special box set that can be ordered at their store. Songs from this album feature on their MySpace profile.

The House of Reggae is looking for reggae and ska bands to book for shows. You can send your information using the following address: info@houseofreggae.com. Talking about the House of Reggae, we have decided to add venues to our links page. Expect more to be added in the upcoming weeks.

March 8th, 2009 - Planet Smashers and Subb playing soon!
If you missed the Planet Smashers show a few weeks ago, here's your chance to make up for it and see Subb at the same time. Both bands, and many more, will playing at the Métropolis on April 2nd to celebrate the 10 years of the show 1-2-3 Punk that plays on Musique Plus. I have also added shows for Take The Boys to our calendar and Westbound Train that will be in Montreal on April 16th.

It is now official the the Ska Is Dead Tour will be visiting the East Coast of Canada this Fall. No dates have been displayed on their website yet.

March 1rst, 2009 - Many shows and a review
It is rather a quiet time right now for the ska scene but I was able to add quite a few shows to our calendar. A lot of local bands are having shows this spring and I encourage you all to come and hear a new band.

Also, I did the review for the Self-Titled EP of Rude City Riot. Check out our links for more information on this great band.

February 22nd, 2009 - New videos

We have new videos from two great local bands: Take the Boys and Stepper, from the show last Thursday. I'm espacially happy to have new videos of Stepper as the last ones I recorded did not do them justice at all.

Check out the Johnstones MySpace profile for a sample of songs from their upcoming album. The band said the full lenght album would be coming out in June but they will release 3 new songs on iTunes and a new videoclip in March.

I'm always looking for online skazines from around the world. Although skazines are rather rare, a lot of punkzines include ska on their websites. This is the case for Punk Fiction, a punkzine from France. They have interviews with Streetlight and Mad Caddies and they recently reviewed the newest Reel Big Fish album. The website is now added to our links. Also added, is the website for Pimpbot, a ska/punk band from Hawaï.

February 15th, 2009 - News and wallpaper
The One Night Band released a videoclip this week for the song Trigger on Hit & Run. You can view the clip here.

Check out the MySpace profile of Westbound Train for a new song from their upcoming album Come And Get it. You can also visit their blog for the complete tracklisting of the album.

Streetlight Manifesto has reveal a few details about the 99 Songs of Revolution Project on their website. No release date yet but they mentioned that the album should be available as they start touring for the Warped Tour. A tracklist of the album should be posted on their website soon enough.

The countdown is now at 0 for 4th Wave Toronto Skazine! People from Toronto can expect a new website (as I assumed) in a very near future.

Finally, I have added a new wallpaper to our media section. Dan Potthast fans will be please as it is an animé version of the cover Sweets and Meats. There are no Mac version for this one but to compensate, I have create a widescreen version. Also, don't expect any videos from the Planet Smashers show, me and Nat unfortunately couldn't make it at the last minute.

February 7th, 2009 - Big Update!
A lot of content has been added this week. First of all, the videos for the Rudeboy show are now online and I have reviewed Ska-P's new album Lagrimas y Gozos. Massawippi Skank and Caillasse will have a show together on February 28th, all the details are in the calendar section. If you are not familiar with the bands, check out our links for their myspace profiles. And finally, the website for the band The Stitch Up has also been added to the links section.

Check back the site during the week as we should have an interview with Matt Collyer of the Planet Smasher ready just before their upcoming show.

January 31th, 2009 - Finally some new media...
I have added some new videos from The Streetlight Manifesto show last Tuesday. As expected, they are a bit shaky. I also have a few videos from the Rudeboy show however, I will only add them next weekend or sometime during the week if I have the time. Check out our MySpace profile for some images and review of both shows.

The Slackers have now released their live DVD! Filmed in one of their favorite place, the Flamingo Cantina in Texas, the DVD is available for 20$ US on the Interpunk website.

The English Beat are celebrating their 30th aniversary and for the occasion, they are touring in the U.S. and Canada. There are unfortunately, no dates for Montreal but they will be playing 3 nights in Ontario's cities of Waterloo, Toronto and London. For those that can make the trip. More details about the tour on their MySpace.

January 25th, 2009 - Shows and new music coming our way
Pretty busy week this week since we have 2 great shows: Streetlight Manifesto and Rudeboy. SkaMontréal will be covering both shows and as usual, if you find us in the crowd, say hello and we'll give you free stickers.

Talking about shows, Take The Boys have a few dates coming up. Actually they will be playing on Tuesday at the Social at 10pm. Also on January 30th and February 6th, 19th and 26th. Time, venues and more details about their shows have been added to our calendar.

In one of their blog this week, the Mad Caddies have revealed that they are currently working on new music and they are planning to tour this summer. No more information has been given yet but you can check out the actual blog here.

The Ska Is Dead tour has revamped their website for the new tour. If you check out their ska news, you will learn that Neville Staple has now a new biography entitled: Neville Staple: The Original Rudeboy. The biography is 30,29$ (canadian dollars) on the Amazon website.

Also mentionned was the upcoming Madness album, The Liberty of Norton Folgate, on March 2nd. For a taste of their new music, you can visit Madness' MadSpace profile.

January 17th, 2009 - Rudeboy album review
I have reviewed the newest album of Rudeboy this week. The band will be in Montréal on January 29th at La Sala Rossa.

And for those interested, Reel Big Fish's new album, Fame, Forture and Fornication, will be coming out this Tuesday. We are not planning on reviewing this one since it is only covers, but you are welcome to share your impressions on our forum.

January 10th, 2009 - First post of 2009!
I just learned this week that the Aggrolites will be opening for Flogging Molly on February 16th. Talking about the Aggrolites, they are presently in studio working on their fourth album. The title has not been announced yet but the album itself should be ready for May 2009.

To all the bands in Québec, Kevin Roy from Rouyn-Noranda is trying to gather some Ska and Punk bands for a show in this area. Those who are willing to travel there can contact him at the following address: werty098@hotmail.com.

For the new year we have revamped our MySpace profile with a new background. Also, we will be promoting Ottawa's band Rudeboy all January until their show on the 29th. I have also made some modifications to the reviews section and created an archive.
