Will you add me on MySpace/Facebook?

Sure! Send us a request and we will gladly add you to our list of friends. You can also follow us on Twitter: SkaMontreal.

Can I join the SkaMontréal team?

We are not looking for new partners for the moment. Eventually though, we might need new people to join the team for maybe reviews or articles. When we get there, it will definately be announced on the website.

Can I send you ska information/news?

If you have some ska related information that you would like to share with the rest of the community, letting us know would probably be an easy way to get the message out there. You can send us your scoop at info@skamontreal.com. We will not post just about anything, but if it is serious news, we will definately consider it.

When is (put band name here) coming in Montreal?

You might want to check our calendar before asking us. If it's not there, we might not know when is the next time your favorite ska band will be playing in Montreal. If you email us about it we might do a bit of ressearch but the information might not be available yet.

Where did you get our T-shirts done?

The T-shirts we wear at shows have been printed by T-Shirt Monster, a company located in Ontario. However, the shirts that will be available in our store will be printed in Montreal.

Do you give interviews?

If you are part of a ska blog or website or even your school newspaper and would like to interview us you can send us your questions at info@skamontreal.com with a deadline, and we will answer them as soon as possible.

Do you book bands?

We do not book bands but we know a few people that do. You might want to try the House of Reggae, they are always looking for new ska and reggae bands to book. Also, the guys from Faceplant Records love to book bands and will do what they can to arrange a show. Finally, you can visit PunkMeUp.com as they have a booking section on their website. You can also try communicating with various venues from our links section.

Can you review my band's CD?

We will only review album that we actually own, meaning no MP3 sent by email. If you send us a CD we will definately listen to it but we might not review it. I'm sure you're band is awesome but it might also need some polishing. We rather not review than give a bad review. You can contact us via email for our mailing address.

Will SkaMontréal promote my band's show?

If you have a show in Montreal, we will gladly add it to our calendar. Promotion, however, includes making banners and advertising, and it takes a lot of our time. We unfortunately can't do it for every band playing here.

Can you come to my band's show?

If you invite us, we'll try to be there. Nat is a bit harder to get but I am usually available as long as you let me know in advance. If we come, it doesn't guarantee that we will take pictures and videos or that we will review the show in our blog. Sometimes we like to go to a show without having to "work" there. I personally rather watch and listen the first time I see a band live.

Putting our names on the guestlist might help a little although we are always happy to encourage local bands and pay the entrance fee like everyone else. If we get in for free, we might make it up to you at the merch table.

Can you get my band on the Montreal Ska Festival?

We are not the ones organizing it. You'll probably have more luck if you check out their website or MySpace.

My band would like to organize a contest, will SkaMontréal help?

If you want to give away tickets for a show or a CD through SkaMontréal, we can help. We might not say yes all the time depending on the timing though. Some times are busier than others.

However, if you let us know in advance enough (about a month) it should give us enough time to create banners and advertise it on our social networks. For tickets, we usually asked for the winner to be put on the guestlist. If it's a CD or any other material good, we would rather have the actual prize in hand so we can send it in time to the winner.

Will you check out my band and give us feedback?

If you really want us to check out your band, don't send us a message on MySpace. We never stay logged in very long on MySpace. Instead, send us your link at info@skamontreal.com.

Will you add my band's website to your links?

Sure, just send it to us by email and it will be added next time we update the website.

Can my band be in your Spotlight section?

The Spotlight section are for bands that we think deserve more attention or that have a show coming soon. If you think your band has a shot, you can always point us out your MySpace or website. If we judge that your band is worthy of the Spotlight section, we will contact you for additional information about your band and a picture.

Will you review (enter band name)'s new CD?

We review albums of bands we are mostly familiar with so it might happen that we don't review an album if we don't know what the band has done before. Therefore, we will usually review albums from local or well-known bands although there have been exceptions. We also only review albums from the current year.

However, we are always open to suggestions. If you think we should pay particular attention to a band let us know and maybe if we will review their next CD.

Why don't you have videos of this band/show?

Well maybe we weren't there. We try to attempt to as many show as possible but sometimes we just can't make it. Also, we don't take videos at every show. We go to shows to have fun and sometimes filming takes a bit of that fun away.

We might have plenty of videos already of a specific bands. Some local bands play often, and we will obviously not take each and every one of their show.

Do you interview bands?

If the opportunity presents itself, I guess yes. But Nat and I are unsure yet if we want to have interviews on a regular basis.

Why is the website updated only once a week?

There are various reasons why the website is only updated once a week. First one being that Nat and I both have full time jobs. They are obviously taking most of our time. Also, Nat doesn't actually touch the website. She helps as much as she can but I am the only one that can update it and the weekends are the only time available for me. You'll understand that I work all day in front of a computer and I don't necessarily feel like being in front of a screen yet again at the end of my day.

The second reason would be the content. Sometimes the scene is quieter and there might not be much material to talk about therefore it wouldn't be possible to update everyday in the first place.

Finally, because the site is bilingual, it is double the work. Every update must be translated and although it is fairly easy for me to do so, it still takes time. So having an update everyday, in double, would be rather exhaustive.

What softwares are you using for the website?

I used Illustrator for most graphics but the layout was created in Photoshop. Once it's been sliced, then exported as a basic page in HTML, I use Dreamweaver for the updates. I also use graphic elements or pictures on iStockPhoto from time to time when needed.

Will you have an online radio?

We are not giving up on the idea. The CRTC (Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission) do not regulate the Internet meaning that anybody can start an online radio in Canada. The issue is the content and the respect of the artists' rights. If we have an online radio, we want to make it 100% legal. If you have information or experience in this domain you would like to share with us you can let us know here.

Who is your web host?

Lee Graphics is our web host. Very friendly company located in Montreal. If you are serious about making a website and you want servers located in Montreal, they also do web design, you can view their website here.
